Navigating NDIS supports and high intensity care can feel overwhelming for participants and families with complex health needs. At Sublime Care, we simplify the process through reliable, clinically guided, participant focused high intensity support. We deliver these services across Newcastle, the Hunter Region, Upper Hunter, and the Central Coast.
As a registered NDIS provider, we specialise in delivering high risk and high complexity supports that require additional clinical oversight and training. This blog will walk you through what high intensity support involves, what funding covers, and how Sublime Care ensures safe, high-quality delivery across the regions we serve.
What Is High Intensity Support?
High intensity support refers to specific personal care tasks that require staff with additional skills due to higher health risks. Under the NDIS, these supports serve participants who need care beyond routine daily activities.
Examples include:
– Tracheostomy care
– Enteral (PEG) feeding
– Catheter care
– Diabetes support including insulin injections
– Seizure support (e.g. administering Midazolam)
– Complex wound management
– Mealtime management for severe dysphagia
– Bowel care involving risk of complications
These supports must be delivered by workers with additional training and competencies under clinical guidance. At Sublime Care, our support workers undergo in-house training provided by Registered Nurses and qualified health professionals to meet these exact requirements.

What Does the NDIS Fund for High Intensity Support?
The NDIS may fund high intensity supports under Core Supports > Assistance with Daily Life. These are typically outlined in your NDIS plan as:
– Assistance with Daily Personal Activities – High Intensity
– Nursing supports (Community Nursing Care)
– Assistance with Mealtime Preparation and Delivery (for complex conditions)
The NDIS Price Guide lists the support items along with the funding rates. High intensity supports often attract higher rates due to increased clinical risk and the advanced training required.
If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible for these supports, your Support Coordinator, Plan Manager, or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can help interpret your plan and funding.
Who Can Access High Intensity Support?
Participants who meet any of the following criteria may be eligible:
– You have complex physical or medical needs that require trained support workers
– You have a diagnosed condition that involves clinical risk (e.g., epilepsy, diabetes, severe pressure injuries)
– You need daily assistance with care tasks involving medical equipment (e.g., feeding tubes, catheters, ventilators)
– You live independently or in supported accommodation but require skilled care workers daily
Sublime Care works closely with participants, their families, and other professionals to ensure that the right level of support is in place—delivered safely, consistently, and with dignity.
