Moving into a new home is a big step. It takes time to learn the rhythm of a new space, to find your favourite spot and to feel that the place truly belongs to you. For Ruth, settling into her new home at Abel Street has been going beautifully, and this week she showed just how at home she feels.

A kitchen filled with the smell of warm chocolate

Ruth spent time in her kitchen baking brownies completely from scratch. She measured, stirred and mixed everything herself, and the house soon filled with the smell of warm chocolate.

Cooking in her own space, at her own pace, is exactly the kind of everyday moment that makes a house feel like a home.

A gift for a very special person

The brownies were not only for Ruth. She had a very special person in mind: our Service Coordinator, Brooke. Ruth wanted to do something special for Brooke’s birthday, so alongside her fresh-baked treats she handed over a lovely card and a bunch of flowers she had picked herself.

It was a thoughtful gesture, and Brooke was thrilled.

Why moments like this matter

Moments like this say so much. Ruth is comfortable, confident and proud of her new space, and she feels valued by the team who support her. Her warmth and generosity are already becoming part of the Abel Street household.

At Sublime Care, we believe that good support is about more than the tasks on a plan. It is about creating the conditions for people to feel safe, respected and free to be themselves in their own home. When someone feels that way, small acts of kindness like baking a cake, writing a card or picking flowers come naturally.

What comes next

It is clear that Ruth is loving her new home and the team that supports her. We are so glad to have her with us, and we cannot wait to share more of her journey.
