How to Apply for NDIS Funding: How to Get Started?

at 4 am

Getting started and applying for NDIS funding is probably challenging and tricky for some. People who aren’t registered yet as NDIS participants will be missing the opportunity to receive the support that will help them improve their daily independence and achieve their life goals. To apply for NDIS funding, you will need to meet the eligibility requirements and go through a planning and assessment process.

Here are some steps you can follow to apply for NDIS funding:

Step 1:

Determine your eligibility for the NDIS: To be eligible for the NDIS, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident and have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. You can use the NDIS’s online eligibility checklist to see if you meet the criteria.

Check NDIS eligibility here.

Step 2:

Contact the NDIS: Once you have determined that you are eligible for the NDIS, you can contact the NDIS by phone or email to begin the application process. You can make a verbal application by calling 1800 800 110. If you need help applying, you can contact your local area coordinator, early childhood partner, or NDIA office.

Step 3:

Complete the access request form: The NDIS will provide you with an access request form, which you will need to fill out and return. This form will ask for information about your disability, your current support needs, and any other relevant information. The NDIS can also ask for more information or require you to have a treating health professional to complete a Supporting Evidence Form.  You can know more about the access request form and download it here.

Step 4:

Attend an access interview: After you have submitted your access request form and have provided all necessary information, the NDIA will decide whether you are eligible or not. They will send you a letter of decision called “Access Decision”. The NDIS will then schedule an interview with you to discuss your needs and how the NDIS can support you. This interview may be conducted over the phone or in person, depending on your circumstances.

Step 5:

Develop your NDIS plan: After your access interview, the NDIS will develop a plan for your support based on your individual needs and goals. This plan will outline the support and services you will receive, as well as the funding you will be eligible for.

Step 6:

Review and update your plan: Your NDIS plan will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that it continues to meet your needs and support your goals. You can request a review of your plan at any time if you feel it is not meeting your needs.

If you need help applying for NDIS funding, you can contact your nearest NDIS office directly for assistance. You can visit the Contact Us page or call 1800 800 110 for further information.
